This flew out of the Maple tree and of course Kim thought it was pretty cool. Does anyone know what it is?
Update on I.D. Kim found this in her bug book and thinks it's a Cicada. There were eight differents species and this one resembles okanagana synodica commonly referred to as a "dog day" Cicada.

I'm an outdoor photographer and I follow the light from dawn to dusk and most of the shots in my blog are from my own garden. My daughter Kim and I are both Certified Master Gardeners and have spent the last few years creating a four season garden filled with perrenial flowers and shrubs and teeming with wildlife. This gives us a great deal of enjoyment and endless photo ops.

Thanks for the nice comment Rebecca. I peeked at your portfolio and was particulary impressed with "sky flower". The perspective and lighting are great.
I'm not surprised that Kim would find these amazing! I thought she knew the names of all critters! I bet she had fun figuring this guy out!
